2008 Arizona Arts Congress: Focus on Arts Education and Economic Development
Mark Your Calendars and plan to be at the State Capitol February 4, 2008 for the 2008 Arizona Arts Congress. This year’s program promises will be the best yet with dynamic speakers, informative sessions and the opportunity to tell your legislators face to face how much the arts and arts education mean for Arizona. The 2008 legislative session will be difficult by any measure of the word, for any Arizonan who relies on public funding. The projections range from a $600 million to $1 billion shortfall in the next fiscal year, it will be critical for our advocates to make sure that State legislators understand that spending on arts and arts education must be protected and Arts Congress is your first chance to make a difference. Registration this year is only $25 and will open
January 7th, 2008. For more information call 602-253-6535.

A new pilot artist residency program intended to introduce schools and communities that have not received funding assistance from the Arizona Commission on the Arts in the past 3 years, with particular interest and support provided for rural and underserved student populations. The program provides funds and technical assistance resources for the design and presentation of standards based arts education programs by teaching artists.  These grant dollars are structured with $1,200 for a mini program and $2,000 for a full program to cover fees for guest artists to present an artist in residence program, conduct professional development for classroom teachers or out-of-school program staff, present a community event and funds for supplies and travel. There is no cash match required of the applicant.  For more information on the Step into Arts Learning grant CLICK HERE
