What Is The State of Contemporary
Art in Classrooms?
NAEA and Art21, Inc. are interested in teacher’s
use of contemporary art in diverse classrooms and schools nationwide.
This needs assessment allows teachers and administrators to express
their opinions and interests related to teaching with contemporary art.
Five respondents will be selected to receive visual resources for the
classroom including books, DVDs and visual images to support classroom

Music Technology
With the help of software, students who don't play an instrument now
can compose songs or an entire symphony, learning more about music
theory than before.

Arts Learning Project Grants Available from the Arizona Commission on
the Arts
The Arizona
Commission on the Arts is committed to making the arts fundamental to
education, particularly in programs that serve Pre-K-12 students,
classroom teachers, teaching artists, arts specialists and
administrators in school, after-school and summer/inter-session
programs. Our goal is that applicants present a plan that creatively
stimulates and delivers arts learning in their school/community
organizations. How to Apply: Applications for the 2007-2008
School Year will be available on EGOR (Electronic Grant Online Resource)
mid-January 2007 at

Applications are due electronically submitted by midnight
March 22, 2007 and supplemental
material postmarked to the Commission offices no lather than
5 p.m. March 22, 2007. (These grants
will fund projects from July 1, 2007 - June 30, 2008) If you have any

Artist Teacher
Institutes Funding Available - Arizona Commission on the Arts
School districts or local arts organizations interested in applying for
the Artist Teacher Institute should submit a letter of application to
Alison Marshall, Arts Learning Director, 417 W. Roosevelt St. Phoenix,
AZ 85003 by March 1, 2007. The letter should describe the current arts
learning programs in the school or community, why you are interested in
hosting an Artist Teacher Institute and how the Institute can help serve
the professional development and arts learning goals in your school and
community. Interested rural schools, districts or local arts
organizations should be able to confirm a minimum of 28 participants and
an onsite contact-coordinator. Applicants must also create a User
Profile in EGOR (Electronic Grant Online Resource)

Grants
The Mockingbird Foundation awards grants which range from $50-$5,000 to
schools and nonprofit organizations in order to effect improvements in

The Coming Up Taller Awards
Program Seeks Nominations
The President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities (PCAH) is
inviting nominations for the 2007 Coming Up Taller Awards. In
partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS),
National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), and the National Endowment for
the Humanities (NEH), the tenth year of the Coming Up
Taller Awards recognizes the accomplishments of exceptional arts
and humanities after-school and out-of-school programs Finalists receive
$10,000, an individualized plaque, and an invitation to attend the
Leadership Enhancement Conference. The deadline for nominations is
Wednesday, January 31, 2007.

Arts Education Partnership Forum,
January 19-20, 2007
The meeting theme is “What are we learning about
the role of arts in system-wide and whole school improvement?” The forum
will address two broad questions: “Whytake a systems approach to
education change?” and “Can the arts be dimension or catalyst in that

National Arts
Advocacy Day
Sponsored by Americans for the Arts, the conference
will include two days of activities including a Congressional Arts
Breakfast, Arts Advocacy Training and an opportunities to meet with your
