  • ArtSource VI: An Annual Gathering of Schools, Afterschool Providers, Libraries and Cultural Organizations
    Save the Date - January 10th, 2008
    9:00 am - 4:00 pm Desert Botanical Garden
    Arts organizations will showcase model arts education partnerships with schools by discipline areas.  Guest Speaker, Sherry Kafka Wagner, will present Designing the Learning Experience. § Arizona Alliance for Arts Education, local Arts Agencies & the AZ State Library will present grants workshops focusing on funding and building a strong evaluation process.  § An interactive panel will discuss the challenges in planning and implementing successful partnerships between schools and cultural organizations. § Cultural organizations will have booths and be available throughout the day for networking and planning for the 2008-2009 school year.  Registration fee of $15.00 includes lunch, resources, give-aways, and a drawing for a semester-long afterschool arts program!   • Enriching the Study of Mexican Culture
    Professional development workshops for teachers and teaching artists presented by ASU Public Events, $20, February 6, 2008.  Workshop leader: Sandi Hammonds, recommended for Spanish or Social Studies teachers of grades 8-12.  Teachers discover how the study of visual art can enrich language acquisitions and appreciation of other cultures.  Participants will explore the art and culture of Mexico through two art strategies: 1) Aesthetic Scanning, a systematic method for critically analyzing and responding to art, and 2) Point of View, an approach that encourages students to examine the point of view of an artist from another culture.   • Teacher In-Service Workshop
    February 26, 2008.Discover ways that art can enhance your teaching by using SMoCA's exhibitions as a cross-disciplinary springboard.  Participate in an interactive tour of the current exhibitions, then experience a related hands-on art project taken from a set of lesson plans prepared especially for you.  Professional development certificate and continental breakfast included.  Meet in the Museum lobby.  $15.00 registration per person.  Preregistration required.  Call 480-874-4641 or email SMoCArsvp@sccarts.org.

  • Harvard Graduate School of Education K-12 Professional Development Programs
    Connecting the Mind, Brain and Education
    July 29–August 3, 2009-
    Explore promising developments and new connections in cognitive science, neuroscience, and educational practice.  This Institute brings together educators and researchers to explore new connections in the fields of cognitive science, genetics, neuroscience, and educational practice. Through lectures and discussions, participants learn the powerful links between these disciplines and how new knowledge can inform their own research and practice.  For more information click here.

    The Project Zero Classroom 2008
    July 28–August 2, 2008-
    The Project Zero Classroom is designed to help practicing PreK-12 educators create classrooms, instructional materials, and out-of-school learning environments that address the challenges presented by our rapidly changing world.
