My career began as a public school music teacher and I have received a BA in Music, a Master’s degree in Music Education, and a Ph.D. in Administration/Planning. I directed the Washington State Cultural Enrichment Program (State Schools and State Arts Commission project) and was then appointed Director of Education and Cultural Programming at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC. My work in Washington and at the Kennedy Center required close communication and cooperation with and between schools and artists. I commissioned new works by several internationally acclaimed artists, booked performances in concert halls and schools, planned and produced festivals and other arts events, directed the national Alliance for Arts Education, managed large budgets, and raised more than $12 million to support these programs. I have worked as the Artistic Director/consultant for two Arizona Arts Councils, having founded the Gold Canyon Arts Council. I was Founding Director of Discovery Park (a science/cultural center) in Safford and served as consultant/planner/fundraiser for the San Carlos Apache Cultural Center in Peridot. I also direct the International Society for Children’s Choral and Performing Arts, consulting for and producing Children’s Choir Festivals in cities around the world.
