Capitol Christmas Tree Juried Art Exhibition Celebrates Gift of Tree From Arizona to US Capitol; Features the work of Arizona Artists

PHOENIX, AZ (October 19, 2009) –Every year since 1970, a Christmas tree has been presented to the United States Congress from a national forest and is known as “The People’s Tree.” This year, for the first time, the tree will be a gift from Arizona. In honor of this occasion, the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests, Arizona Commission on the Arts, and Arizona Art Alliance collaborated to host a statewide, juried art exhibition to select an official artwork to represent the 2009 National Capitol Christmas Tree (CCT). Arts Commission Announces $2,238,052 in Statewide Grant Awards for Fiscal Year 2009-2010

PHOENIX, AZ (July 26, 2010) – On June 18, 2009, the Governor-appointed members of the Arizona Commission on the Arts approved $2,238,052 in matching grants to arts and community organizations and schools for the 2009–2010 fiscal year. These grants are funded by the Arts Commission’s state appropriation, the Arizona Arts Trust Fund, the Arizona ArtShare Endowment, and the National Endowment for the Arts. (more…)

Statewide Arts Organizations Cutting Progams, Exhibitions, Staff from Loss of Public Funding, Decreases in Donations and Attendance, Arts Commission Survey Shows

PHOENIX, AZ (July 29, 2009) — More than 60 percent of Arizona arts organizations responding to an Arizona Commission on the Arts survey in May report that the current economic environment coupled with losses of both public and private funding will force cutbacks in programs and exhibitions. Organizations operating with volunteers and without paid staff indicated the loss of public funding would have the most significant impact on arts education programs. (more…)

Nonprofit Arts Industry Facing Crisis

Phoenix, AZ (April 1, 2009) – Arizona arts organizations are feeling the effects of the economic downturn. In January 2009, the Arizona Commission on the Arts conducted a statewide survey to assess the effects of the changing economic winds on Arizona arts organizations. With Arizona in a deep recession and the second highest per-capita state budget shortfall in the nation, arts organizations are under intense pressure. (more…)
