The 2012 Joint Arts Education Conference, presented by the Arizona Commission on the Arts and the Arizona Department of Education, took place Monday, October 15th at the Mesa Arts Center.

Educators, teaching artists, administrators, arts organizations, and arts education advocates from across the state came together to explore key areas and trends in arts education, such as current education reforms impacting our public schools, how arts education connects with Arizona’s Common Core Standards, and what is on the horizon for arts education in schools and communities – including a sneak peak at the revision of the new National Arts Education Standards. Keynote speakers, Dr. Peter Boonshaft, Professor of Music at Hofstra University, and David Dik, National Executive Director of Young Audiences,  inspired participants to discover how we can work together to leverage change into opportunity and to lead the way in the rapidly changing world of arts education.
