The Arts & Business Council
of Greater Phoenix (A&BC) links the vitality and expertise of the
business community to non-profit arts and cultural organizations to the
benefit of both individually and our community as a whole. Originally
chartered to specifically develop and administer the volunteer match
program known as Business Volunteers for the Arts (BVA), the organization
has grown to offer a broader range of services. In addition to the BVA and
educational programs, the Council has become a one-stop shop for the arts
by including opportunities for governance training, new educational
opportunities for artists, and functioning as a strategic partner for
capacity building.

Applying for 501(c) Status - The IRS has created a new website (www.stayexempt.org)
that enables new organizations to apply for 501(c) status without using a
lawyer. It is helpful and easy to follow and recommended for those who
work with emerging organizations.
The 2006-2007 Cultural Facilities Resource Guide - A directory of
Phoenix area facilities available for rent by arts organizations and artists for
performances, exhibits, rehearsals, workshops and meetings is now available
on-line at
www.phoenix.gov/ARTFACIL/ The Guide features detailed, comprehensive
information on: 27 Performance Spaces, 10 Exhibition Spaces, 9 City Library and
Community Center Spaces. The Guide also features Indices to help narrow your
search based on: Seating Capacity, Geographic Location, Accessibility Services.

On-Line Nonprofit Board Assessment Tools - At
least two organizations now offer on-line tools to help you assess your board
and/or benchmark your board of directors in the areas of leadership, the role of

coalition of artists and activists working for social justice in southeastern

is testing in four cities across the country and the state of Alaska an

will help the arts world develop a national model for arts research
collaboration.
