New Opportunities to Become Involved with the Field Forward Network
ATTENTION CHOREOGRAPHERS: The Arizona Commission on the Arts is
currently in the process of revitalizing our Field Forward Network site. As a
Field Forward Network site, Arizona offers choreographers professional
development at all levels of career.
What is Fieldwork? Fieldwork offers
choreographers the opportunity to develop their own craft within a community of
peers by showing work, receiving feedback, and participating in discussions with
artists within a structure.
In August, a Fieldwork demonstration session will be offered for those
interested in understanding how it works. In September, a two-day facilitator
training will be held for those interested in becoming Field Forward
Facilitators, and holding regular Fieldwork sessions. Facilitators are trained
in the method by a practitioner from The Field in New York or one of the
national Network sites. Facilitators are then able to conduct sessions, host
showings, receive technical assistance from The Field NY, and attend, as a guest
of The Field NY, the annual Field Forward Network Conference in New York.
The Field, NY - The Field, (www.thefield.org),
is a New York-based organization offering programs to assist independent artists
with management of their careers and creation of new artwork. Fieldwork was
developed in New York then expanded to include satellite sites in cities
including Salt Lake City, Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Toronto, and Tokyo. The
program has been refined over the years to facilitate information sharing
between creative artists about process to build a community of artistic peers
and to support the development of new work. Results have included artist
exchanges and public performances.
Fieldwork in Arizona - In 2001, in response to the need for continued
artistic development activities for Arizona-based choreographers, a
representative from The Field NY conducted Fieldwork sessions in Phoenix and
Tucson. In 2002, five choreographers were trained as Fieldwork facilitators.
Since then, Fieldwork has taken place in Phoenix and Tucson. Choreographers
have expressed the desire to repeat the training.
Interested in being involved? - If you are interested in participating
in the following Fieldwork activities sponsored by the Arizona Commission on the
Arts or would like to update your contact information, please contact the
Performing Arts Director
at 602-771-6531.
If you have any other questions
regarding the Field Forward Network or thoughts regarding location, possible
studio spaces, dates, and times, please feel to contact us as well.
"I often learn more about my pieces when I show them
to a Fieldwork group than I would in months of isolated work in the studio." -
