It's always great to get a head start on selecting the poem you want to recite for your classroom, school, and state recitations.  When your teacher first announces that your class will be participating in the Poetry Out Loud Contest, start researching different poems ASAP.  It's never too soon to get a head start on memorizing or getting to know the poem you selected.  You'll be spending a lot of time with whichever poem you choose, so it's always best to make sure you pick a poem that resonates and has meaning to you.  Start memorizing that poem right now and you'll be one step ahead of the game!
