Grants for Artists

The Arizona Commission on the Arts provides assistance to individual artists working in a variety of disciplines through Artist Project Grants and Professional Development Grants. The Artist Project Grant is a highly competitive and prestigious grant award offering project-related funding to artists in support of research and development leading to the creation of new works of art. Professional Development Grants provide funding support for participation in artistic development and skills building activities or opportunities that contribute to professional growth and career development.

Artist Project Grants

The Arts Commission provides assistance to individual artists through annual Artist Project Grants (APG). Artists apply for project-related funding up to $5,500 for research and development leading to the creation of a work of art in any artistic discipline. Previous Artist Project Grants winners may apply for and receive the Artist Project Grants every ten years. The Distinguished Merit Award recognizes a particularly outstanding project with additional funding support in the amount of up to $2,500 to one Artist Project Grant recipient. Currently, the Arts Commission receives approximately 190 applications each year with funding available to grant approximately 5 awards.

The 2012 Artist Project Grant application process is now closed. Its deadline was Thursday, September 22, 2011.

The 2012 Artist Project Grant Application Guide is posted here, for applicant reference. The 2013 Artist Project Grant application process will likely open in Summer 2012, with an updated guide and application.
